Han mottog Hasselbladpriset 1997. [ 1 ] Han är främst känd för sina intima svartvita porträtt och sina gatufotografier . Christer Strömholm är en av de stora personligheterna inom svensk fotohistoria. Han föddes i Stockholm och kom via grafiken in på fotografin. De tidiga 1950-talsbilderna består av hårt svartvita kompositioner. När han senare periodvis bodde i Paris tar gatufotografiet alltmer över och han fotograferade då bland annat sina berömda porträtt av de transsexuella vid Place Blanche.
